Can't get rid of shortcut arrow on desktop icons anymore
Use F3 to find the next occurrence of 'IsShortcut', then delete it. Continue till no more occurrences are found. Exit. With your cursor anywhere on the desktop, hit F5. All of the shortcut arrows will disappear inmmediately. From then on, newly-created shortcuts will not contain the shortcut arrow.

I see this only when I open Favorites in Explorer where all Internet Shortcuts seem to have the Shortcut arrow attached. Eg I don't see them in the Favorites bar or in the Favorites menu. You can see this to a lesser degree if you look at the desktop icons on the right side of the screen. In this image it's most visible on the 'Google earth' icon (look closely, right above the shortcut arrow). The appearance of these lines is completely random. Removing shortcut arrow from icons
There is a lot of this going on since TweakUI will not allow you to remove the shortcut arrow any longer. This is the result of a recent IE security update. Run and deleted some useless entries, but the icons still show up. Is this some new virus, because what puzzles me is that it only appears on *.lnk files
